Medication Readiness & Treatment Clarification Evaluations
Purpose of the Evaluation
In some situations, physicians or psychiatric prescribers request additional diagnostic clarification before initiating, adjusting, or continuing psychiatric medication. A Medication Readiness & Treatment Clarification Evaluation provides a structured behavioral health assessment to help determine whether symptoms are consistent with conditions that may benefit from medication treatment or whether other factors may be contributing to the presenting concerns.
These evaluations are commonly requested when symptoms are complex, when previous treatment has not been effective, or when clarification is needed prior to initiating stimulant or other psychiatric medications.
Clinical Focus
The evaluation focuses on identifying the underlying contributors to attention, mood, or behavioral symptoms so that medical providers can make informed treatment decisions.
Areas typically assessed include:
- attention and executive functioning concerns
- mood symptoms such as depression or emotional dysregulation
- anxiety-related cognitive interference
- trauma-related attention difficulties
- sleep or behavioral regulation factors
- functional impairment across academic, occupational, or daily settings
Evaluation Process
The evaluation may include:
- structured clinical diagnostic interview
- developmental and psychosocial history review
- standardized screening instruments for attention, mood, and anxiety symptoms
- behavioral functioning assessment
- differential diagnostic analysis
- preparation of a written clinical consultation report
Clinical Outcome
Reports provide diagnostic impressions and clinical considerations that may assist the referring medical provider in determining appropriate treatment options.
These evaluations do not involve prescribing medication. Medication decisions remain under the direction of the treating physician or prescribing provider.

Evaluation Services
Diagnostic evaluations are comprehensive clinical services that include structured interviews, standardized assessment instruments when appropriate, integration of clinical findings, preparation of a written report, and a feedback session to review results and recommendations.
Because the scope of evaluations varies depending on the referral question and clinical needs, fees are discussed during the intake screening process. This allows the office to ensure that the appropriate evaluation is scheduled and that patients receive clear information about the expected scope of services.
Individuals seeking an evaluation are invited to request an intake screening to determine the most appropriate evaluation type.
